The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the Osun governorship election, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, has withdrawn from the race and declared support for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision on Saturday in Osogbo during the ‘Osun Youth Interactive Session with Oyebamiji’, organised by the APC Campaign Council. He said the decision came after consultations with APGA executives and members in the state.
The APGA candidate said he had watched the candidates in the election and consulted the party’s state chairman, secretary and other senior members before deciding to back Oyebamiji.

“I am here today to declare publicly to the good people of Osun State our allegiance, support, and collaboration as we join His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and the All Progressives Congress, APC,” he said.
Adeyemi-Doro said APGA had reached an agreement with the APC after the consultations.
He also said he expected the decision to help deliver Osun State to Oyebamiji in the 15 August governorship election.
Oyebamiji welcomes backing
Oyebamiji thanked Adeyemi-Doro for his support and said his campaign would seek backing from other parties contesting the governorship election.
“Thank you so much. I appreciate this, and I want to assure you that we will work together to rescue Osun State from the current bad government. Your people will be taken care of,” Oyebamiji said.
He said he was pleased with the development and would reach out to other parties in the race.
“I am glad about this development, and we will also reach out to other parties so that we can join hands together to build a greater Osun State,” he said.
The endorsement gives Oyebamiji the backing of a candidate who had been contesting the same governorship election under APGA.
Adeyemi-Doro did not provide figures for the number of APGA members or supporters who would support Oyebamiji following his decision. The information provided also does not give details of any agreement between APGA and the APC apart from his announcement of support.
The 15 August election is the next major event in the contest for Osun State governor.
Youths question Oyebamiji
The announcement was made at a programme focused on interaction between Oyebamiji and young people, students and members of civil society.
Ayodele Asalu, chairman of the Directorate of Youth, Students and Civil Society of the Osun APC Campaign Council, said youths from different political parties attended the event.
Asalu said the session gave Oyebamiji an opportunity to speak directly with youths and students about his plans for the state.
He said participants wanted answers on education, employment and opportunities for entrepreneurs, artisans and professionals.
“They want to know what your administration proposes to do about education and employment. They want to understand the opportunities that will exist for entrepreneurs, artisans and professionals,” Asalu said.
He also said participants wanted to know how communities would benefit from development and how young people would take part in decisions affecting them.
Asalu encouraged participants who were not APC members to use the session to examine Oyebamiji’s proposals.
“Listen carefully to the answers. Examine the proposals and make your assessment based on the issues that matter to you and to the future of Osun State. That is the kind of political engagement our democracy needs,” he said.
With Adeyemi-Doro out of the contest, Oyebamiji now has the APGA candidate publicly backing his bid ahead of the 15 August governorship election.
