Banditry: Katsina Police Repels Kidnap Attempt, One  Person Arrested, Two Persons Arrested, Rifles Recovered

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled a bandits’ kidnapping attempt in the Bakori Local Government Area and recovered exhibits.

This is contained in a statement by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, made available to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday.

According to the statement, on August 7, 2026, at about 4:30 am, credible information was received at Bakori Division that a group of suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, were sighted moving from Tamarke Village, Tsiga District, Bakori LGA, towards Ganzaki Hill, Malumfashi LGA, with two kidnapped victims and rustled animals.

Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Bakori mobilised a joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the area and tactically engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully dislodged them.

The operation, he said, led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims, unhurt, recovery of one AK-47 rifle with 24 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, five rustled animals and one Tecno keypad mobile phone.

A thorough search of the scene and combing of surrounding bushes, he added, led to the arrest of one suspected injured bandit and the recovery of the body of one neutralised suspected bandit.

He maintained that investigation is ongoing to track and arrest other fleeing suspects and recover the remaining rustled animals.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, in a response, commended the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism. He equally appreciates members of the public for providing timely information and reiterates the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property throughout Katsina State.
