Ugandan socialite and entrepreneur Zari Hassan has sparked debate online after sharing her views on infidelity and financial responsibility in relationships.

In a video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), Zari suggested that a woman being unfaithful to a man who does not contribute to her welfare could be viewed as a form of “self-defense.”

According to the businesswoman, men in relationships have a responsibility to provide care and support for their partners. She encouraged women in relationships where their partners allegedly do nothing for them to make decisions based on their individual circumstances.

“Cheating on a man when a man who doesn’t do anything for you is self-defense. If he doesn’t do anything, it’s his responsibility to take care of you. Go for it, baby. Go. Go for it, woman. Go ahead. If it’s for a good reason, go ahead,” she said.

Zari anticipated criticism from people who might interpret her comments as encouraging women to cheat. However, she explained that she was simply expressing her personal opinion rather than instructing anyone on how to handle their relationship.

She also acknowledged that relationships differ and stressed that women must be prepared to deal with the consequences of whatever choices they make.

“I know some people are going to be saying, ‘Oh, I’m misleading women, I’m misleading women.’ Listen, I’m not misleading anyone. I’m just saying what I feel should be done.

“And there’s a lot of people who are going to agree with me, and there’s a lot who are going to disagree with me. But at the end of the day, I’m saying, it’s your own risk. Remember, everyone’s situation is different,” she added.

Zari’s remarks have generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing that financial responsibility is an important aspect of a relationship. Others, however, disagreed with her stance, arguing that financial shortcomings should not be used to justify cheating.
