Five Feared Dead, Several Injured After Tipper Truck Crashes Into Sprinter Bus at Ofankor
Five people are feared dead while several others have reportedly sustained serious injuries following a collision involving a tipper truck and a Sprinter bus at Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026, leaving the Sprinter bus severely damaged and several passengers trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were dispatched to the scene to rescue trapped passengers and assist the injured.
According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey of the GNFS, five people had so far been confirmed dead, while several others suffered serious injuries.
The crash reportedly required extensive rescue efforts, with emergency personnel working to extricate victims from the mangled vehicle and transport survivors to health facilities.
One female victim reportedly sustained severe injuries to her legs and was evacuated from the scene by ambulance.
The GNFS described the situation as volatile as its personnel worked to safely remove victims from the wreckage.
The exact number of casualties remained unclear at the time of reporting, as rescue operations were still ongoing.
The crash also disrupted traffic along the Accra-Kumasi Highway, with movement temporarily restricted to allow emergency teams to operate.
The GNFS has advised motorists travelling from Pokuase and Amasaman towards Ofankor and Accra to use the outer lane and approach the area with caution.
Drivers have also been urged to slow down and give way to emergency responders as efforts continue to clear the wreckage and assist victims.
