“I Can’t Stand ‘Hi’”- Shaffy Bello Insists Children Must Respect Their Elders

  • Shaffy Bello emphasizes the importance of respect in addressing elders.
  • She prefers not to be called by her first name by younger individuals.
  • Bello believes age and cultural values should guide interactions with elders.

Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has opened up about her strong views on respect and how younger people address their elders.

The veteran actress explained that she does not appreciate being called by her first name, particularly by children or younger people. According to her, age and cultural values should play an important role in how people relate to their elders.

Bello said that whenever a child calls her by her name, she draws the child closer and makes it clear that they have not earned the privilege of addressing her that way.

“When a child calls me by my name, I pull them closer and tell them, ‘You haven’t earned the right, and you never will.”

The actress also expressed her dislike for the casual greeting, “Hi,” describing it as something she cannot stand.

She stressed that such informal forms of communication do not sit well with her, especially given the African culture, where respect for elders has traditionally been regarded as an important value.

“Also, there’s something about this ‘Hi’. I can’t stand it. This is Africa after all.”

Bello’s comments have sparked conversations about changing social norms, generational differences and the importance of maintaining traditional values of respect in modern society.
