The university community of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden d!ath of its newly inaugurated Vice Chancellor, Professor Carter Dike Umeoduagu.

The 44-year-old professor was reportedly inaugurated as the substantive Vice Chancellor on October 2, 2026, but suddenly took ill and d!ed on October 3, shortly after assuming office. The cause of his d!ath had not been made public as of the time of reporting.

Umeoduagu, a Professor of Microbiology, had previously served in leadership roles at Tansian University. He was also a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, representing Aguata I Constituency.

His sudden d!ath has sparked shock among colleagues, students, friends and other members of the university community, particularly coming almost immediately after he took over as Vice Chancellor.
