‘I have a deep connection to Imo State’- Davido Urges Hope Uzodimma to Ensure Free and Fair Osun Election

  • Davido has urged Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to ensure a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Osun State, saying he had heard rumours of possible interference.
  • The singer said his appeal was sincere because of his family ties to Imo State through his wife, Chioma, and called on the governor to allow Osun residents to choose their leaders freely.

Afrobeats superstar Davido has appealed to the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, to support a free, fair and peaceful governorship election in Osun State amid concerns over possible political interference.

Speaking during a press conference ahead of the election, the singer addressed the governor, who was recently appointed chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election.

Davido said he had heard rumours of plans to interfere in the election and urged the governor to use his influence to ensure the people of Osun are allowed to choose their preferred candidate without intimidation.

In his words, “To our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir. I have heard rumours suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election. All use the state as a political battleground to prove a point. I do not present this case as fact, but I appeal to you, sir, to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidates freely. I have a deep connection to Imo State; my wife, Chioma, is from your state, which makes this appeal more sincere. Please, let Osun remain peaceful.”

The music star noted that his appeal was genuine because of his personal connection to Imo State through his wife, Chioma, who hails from the state.

A few days earlier, after Governor Uzodimma’s appointment as chairman of the APC campaign council, Davido had said he liked the governor because he is from his wife’s state, but added that they would “meet on the field,” referring to the Osun governorship election.
