Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has opened up about the difficult circumstances that forced him to relocate to Badagry, revealing how the decision affected his acting career and plunged him into a period of severe financial hardship.
According to the actor, he moved to Badagry with the hope of owning his own house, but the distance from the centre of the entertainment industry came with a heavy price.
«“I actually relocated to Badagry because I wanted to have a building on my own. It has really affected my career. It has caused a lot of setback, especially for my major profession, which is acting.”»
Afolabi said the lack of acting jobs eventually made survival increasingly difficult, despite his efforts to find alternative sources of income.
He recalled that his Nissan Quest developed a fault and remained grounded for about two years because he could not afford to repair it.
«“I wasn’t getting jobs. I lost my Nissan Quest. Ordinary shock absorber was there for two years, I wasn’t getting jobs.”»
With acting opportunities drying up, Afolabi turned to photography, hoping to make ends meet. However, that venture also suffered a setback when his camera stopped functioning.
The actor said he was eventually forced to sell his Nissan Quest and use the proceeds to purchase a fairly used motorcycle.
«“I was into photography and I wasn’t getting jobs. At some point, the camera stopped working. I actually sold my Nissan Quest to buy fairly used motorcycle. The money was not enough to buy another one.”»
But his troubles did not end there. Afolabi said he was unfamiliar with riding motorcycles and repeatedly fell while trying to adapt to his new means of transportation.
