“If There’s a Heaven, Pastor Kumuyi Will Not Enter It”- Nigerian Man Criticizes Deeper Life Pastor Over Old Teachings

• Charles Kay Anyabuike has criticised Pastor William Kumuyi over his past teachings on wealth and worldly possessions, alleging that some Deeper Life members sacrificed material comforts and opportunities because of those teachings.

A Nigerian man identified as Charles Kay Anyabuike has sparked controversy after attacking Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, over the cleric’s past teachings on wealth, luxury and worldly possessions.

Anyabuike made the remarks in a Facebook post, where he questioned whether Kumuyi would make heaven based on what he described as the standards the pastor previously set for members of his church.

“If there’s a heaven, Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life church will not enter it. And I say it with my full chest and understanding,” Anyabuike wrote.

He alleged that many Deeper Life members in the 1980s and 1990s lived in poverty because they followed teachings which, according to him, discouraged the pursuit and enjoyment of material possessions.

“Many of his church members at that time sold or destroyed their televisions and gold jewelry because Kumuyi said it would take them to hell fire,” he claimed.

Anyabuike further alleged that some members turned down job opportunities and businesses because they believed such pursuits could affect their chances of making heaven.

He then compared what he described as Kumuyi’s earlier teachings with the lifestyle the cleric has adopted over the years.

“Today, Pastor Kumuyi flies round the world in first class jets and cruises the streets in limousines enjoying the life he denied his church members. How can he enter heaven?” he wrote.

Anyabuike argued that the pastor should be judged by the same principles he allegedly taught his followers.

“Kumuyi will not enter heaven because God will judge him by what he teaches and the standard he set for his church members,” he stated.

The comments come shortly after a highly publicised meeting between Kumuyi and Bishop David Oyedepo at the Global Crusade with Kumuyi in Ota, Ogun State.

Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, made a surprise appearance at the crusade on August 29, 2026, where he shared the platform with Kumuyi and delivered a message on salvation.

During the event, Oyedepo described Kumuyi as a “sage” and praised the impact of his ministry over the years. He also said he attended the crusade because “honour must be given to whom honour is due.”

Kumuyi, in response, welcomed Oyedepo as his “dear friend and fellow servant of God” and described his presence as a joyful moment of fellowship.

Anyabuike’s comments have therefore generated fresh discussion online about Kumuyi’s teachings, the evolution of his public image and the place of wealth and material possessions in Christian life.
