“Nigeria’s Problem Goes Beyond Bad Leadership; Our Mindset Is Also The Problem”- Nigerian Lady

- A Nigerian lady has sparked online discussion by saying the country’s problems stem not only from poor governance but also from citizens’ attitudes.
- She argues that people often seek personal workarounds instead of pushing for lasting solutions that benefit everyone.
A Nigerian lady has sparked conversations online after expressing concerns about the country’s challenges, arguing that Nigeria’s problems go beyond poor governance and are also rooted in the mindset of its citizens.
In a statement that has gained attention, she pointed out that many Nigerians have become comfortable with finding personal solutions to problems that affect the entire country rather than demanding lasting improvements for everyone.
According to her, people who can afford alternative sources of electricity, such as solar power, often lose interest in the struggle for a reliable public power supply. Similarly, those who have access to private healthcare facilities tend to pay less attention to the challenges facing public hospitals.
“Our problem in Nigeria goes beyond the government; it is also our mindset. We have normalised the culture of abandoning collective problems simply because we can afford personal alternatives. You have solar electricity, and suddenly public power supply is no longer your concern. You can afford private healthcare, and public healthcare becomes someone else’s problem,” she said.
The lady also criticised what she described as Nigerians’ tendency to embrace Western fashion, lifestyles and culture without adopting the systems and structures responsible for making those societies function effectively.
She questioned why a country widely regarded as the Giant of Africa is still struggling to provide basic amenities for its citizens in 2026.
She further expressed concern about people who repeatedly pray for an administration to favour them and their families, suggesting that Nigerians should be more concerned about demanding a country where things work for everyone.
Her remarks have highlighted the importance of collective responsibility, civic awareness and the need for citizens to look beyond personal comfort when addressing the country’s challenges.
