INEC Restores 4 State Assembly Constituencies In Delta, Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States following court judgments directing their reinstatement.

INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

Haruna said the Commission had fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored constituencies.

He said the primaries would coincide with the period already scheduled for political parties to conduct primaries for upcoming legislative by-elections.

According to INEC, elections into the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.

The Commission said the timelines and activities contained in its previously published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would also apply to the restored constituencies.

INEC urged political parties intending to participate in the process to submit notices of their primaries to the commission before the scheduled dates.

The electoral body said the restoration of the constituencies was in compliance with the relevant court judgments and would enable eligible political parties to participate in the electoral process for the affected seats.
