Int’l Conference: UNIAbuja, U.S. Varsity Invites UNESCO Laureate As Special Guest Of Honor

The University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, and the 21st Century Open University, USA, have jointly invited Professor Sir Bashiru Aremu, the First African UNESCO Laureate who also double as Grand Chairman Board of Trustees of 21st Century Open University USA as Special Guest of Honor for an upcoming international virtual Conference.

Daily Independent learnt this from Prof Sir Bashiru Aremu in a telephone conversation with our reporter today being on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 as the Professor Emeritus, Professor of Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology stated that the seminar is scheduled to hold this week on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Speaking to our reporter, Prof Aremu stated that the Theme of the International Collaborative Conference is titled: “Social Dynamic, Politics and Arts of Separation/Divorce and Singlehood in Contemporary Society”. The Award-winning Global Five Stars Professor noted further that the event will bring together scholars, policymakers, and professionals to examine contemporary social issues.

In the words of the First African UNESCO Laureate: “First and foremost, I sincerely thank God Almighty for this great privilege. Also, I commend the Management of UniAbuja, Top American Varsity-21st Century Open University, USA for their invitation, to had find me worthy as Special Guest of Honor in this forthcoming Int’l Conference”.

“The University of Abuja is a federal university located in the Federal Capital Territory. It was established in January 1988 under Decree No. 110 of 1992, as amended, with a mandate to run both conventional and distance learning programmes. Academic activities commenced in 1990 with the matriculation of pioneer students.

“The institution was renamed “Yakubu Gowon University” on December 16, 2024, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The renaming was in honor of General Yakubu Gowon, former Head of State, on his 90th birthday, in recognition of his contributions to national unity and development”.

“The 21st Century Open University is a private, global virtual university incorporated as an LLC in Sheridan, Wyoming, USA. Formerly known as 21st CMI Institute and Academy. The institution operates on Christian values and specializes in flexible online distance learning for academic and workforce development.

“It offers undergraduate and professional programmes in Business Administration, Information Technology, Education, Health Sciences, Humanities and International Studies, International Law, and Global Alliances and Operations”.
