Kebbi ADC crisis: court orders ADC to maintain status quo

Amid the unveiling of 600 men campaign council by Malami led ADC in Kebbi state, the opposition party is enmashed in legal tussle with some aggrieved members over forceful replacement by the party.

Abubaksr Sadiq Sa,adu Fakai had earlier approached the federal high court to restrain the Kebbi leadership of African democratic Congress ADC from replacing with any candidate produced by local primaries organized by the party to replace candidates without their consent.

However the plaintiff had initiated an action before the Federal High Court Abuja challenging the action of the All Democratic Congress (ADC) reconducting another primaries to substitute and/or change his candidacy with INEC; without his formal withdrawal of candidacy as required by the Electoral Act.

The Plaintiff had contended that upon emerging as the successful candidate of the ADC, his name was submitted as the party’s candidate for Zuru, Fakai, Danko Wasagu, Sakaba Federal constituency of Kebbi State.

He said that However, the party intends and has taken plans to change his candidacy with Bashar Sulaiman Bajida, without his formal withdrawal of candidacy.

The suit was filed on the 14th of August, 2026.

According to him the matter came up today before the Federal High Court Abuja for Mention.

The Plaintiff was represented by Ezra Enwere, Esq. of Savannah Law LP.

The plaintiff’s counsel informed the court that the matter was for mention and they had both interim and interlocutory applications before the court restraining the ADC and INEC from substituting the name of the petitioner with the 2nd Defendant – Bashar Sulaiman Bajida.

The court observed that it was not necessary to take all the applications at this point and will rather adjourn the matter for hearing of the substantive suit.

The court adjourned to the 8th of September, 2026 for hearing; directing that all parties be served with the processes. The Court also ordered that all parties maintain status quo pending the determination of the suit.

Therefore the courtordered the party to maintain status quo and directed that all parties should be as they are before the 18th August 2026 when the disputed primaries was conducted; the name of the plaintiff should remain on the INEC’s portal until the final determination of the case.

Therefore, the malami led primaries is according to the court null and void.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and law abiding as the court would do justice to the matter.
