Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has inspected the site of the proposed Nigerian Army 10 Division headquarters in Jalingo, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure in the state.
The inspection took place on Wednesday at Yali Community, near Sibre on the outskirts of Jalingo, where the permanent headquarters is under construction. Kefas was briefed on the progress of work, project scope and facilities being developed at the site by Major Esosasere Ernest Omorodion.
Speaking after the inspection, the governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff for approving the establishment of the division in Taraba.
He described the decision as a significant intervention that would strengthen security operations in the North-East and North-Central regions. Kefas said Taraba’s strategic location makes it suitable for the division and noted that the site was initially designated for the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade Barracks.
He said the inspection was aimed at assessing construction progress, identifying infrastructure gaps and determining measures to accelerate completion.The governor disclosed that arrangements had been concluded for a temporary operational base to allow the division to commence activities before the permanent headquarters is completed.
According to Kefas, the division is expected to enhance military operations, improve security in Taraba and neighbouring states, strengthen border protection and support responses to emerging threats. He also said the project could stimulate economic activity in host communities through job creation, infrastructure development and increased investment.
Kefas reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to promote peace, protect lives and property and create an environment conducive to economic development.
