Four suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity have been arrested after a police investigation in Mushin, Lagos, led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm live ammunition on 10 August, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, SP Abimbola Adebisi revealed.
The Lagos State Police Command said the arrests followed intelligence on cult activities in the area, with information from one suspect leading officers to the firearm.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which is investigating cult-related activities in Mushin and other parts of Lagos.

The first suspect, Irawo Moshod, was arrested after police received information about cult activities in Mushin. During questioning, he admitted that he was a former chairman of the Aiye Confraternity cult group.
Police said Moshod also made disclosures about the group’s activities, including his alleged involvement in several killings in Mushin and other parts of Lagos State.
Suspect’s information leads police to gun
Acting on information obtained from Moshod, VCRU operatives went to Idi-Oro, Mushin, where they recovered a locally made Beretta pistol and one 9mm live ammunition.
Three other suspected members were later arrested at Aganran by Ojuwoye. They were identified as Abayomi James, 29; Farouq Bankole, 28; and Steven Sunday, 19.
The police said the three suspects admitted to being members of the Aiye Confraternity. They also told investigators that the recovered firearm was obtained from a man identified as Rilwan, whom they described as the number one member of the group.
The four suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations. Police said work is continuing to apprehend other members of the group.
The arrests and firearm recovery give investigators information on both the membership of the group and the source of a locally made weapon found in Mushin.
The Lagos State Police Command said the operation followed credible intelligence on cult activities in the area. The VCRU then acted on the information and arrested Moshod before obtaining further information from him.
Police said the investigation also produced information about alleged killings linked to the suspect. The allegation has not been established in court.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the VCRU operatives for their work in disrupting cult-related criminal activities in the state.
Fatai said the command would continue working to dismantle criminal networks and protect residents of Lagos State. He also warned cultists and other criminal elements to stop their activities or face the full weight of the law.
The command encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines to enable police response.
