Activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has reacted to the viral video of billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu correcting a young graduate trainee who addressed him by his first name during a public event.
In the video, the young woman, reportedly a graduate trainee of the UBA Banking School, stood up to ask Elumelu a question and referred to him as “Tony.”
Elumelu immediately corrected her, asking her to address him as “Mr. Elumelu” or “TOE”. He also said he does not subscribe to what he described as the “oyinbo life” of addressing people by their first names.
Reacting to the incident, Sowore questioned the difference between the two forms of address and criticised Elumelu’s response.
“Don’t call me Tony, call me Mr. Elumelu or ‘TOE.’”
“When I said Tony Elumelu is a content creator with little or no intellect, his supporters were enraged.”
“Now, what exactly is the difference between being called ‘Tony’ and ‘TOE’? Much ado about nothing!”
