The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 37 Nigerian nationals repatriated from the Republic of Türkiye, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe and dignified return of citizens stranded abroad.
The returnees arrived on Monday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aboard a chartered flight following arrangements coordinated through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On arrival, NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office led a multi-agency reception exercise to provide immediate support for the returnees and facilitate the next phase of their reintegration into society.
Officials carried out documentation, profiling and medical screening, while humanitarian assistance was provided to address the returnees’ immediate needs before they were handed over to relevant authorities.
Speaking at the reception, the Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, Pharm. Zakari Abubakar, said the Agency remains committed to protecting the welfare and dignity of vulnerable Nigerians through coordinated humanitarian interventions.
He urged the returnees to see their homecoming as an opportunity for a fresh beginning, encouraging them to remain law-abiding and take advantage of government programmes designed to support their reintegration and economic recovery.
Abubakar also praised the strong partnership among government institutions involved in the exercise, noting that sustained collaboration is vital to ensuring successful reception and reintegration of returning migrants.
The reception involved officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, airport authorities, security agencies and other humanitarian partners.
