‘No Public Celebrations’ – Shettima Asks Friends, Associates to Pray for Nigeria Instead of Celebrating His 60th Birthday

• Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked Nigerians, friends and associates not to organise public celebrations or place birthday advertorials ahead of his 60th birthday on September 2.
• He instead urged well-wishers to pray for Nigeria, including for the success of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, improved security, national unity, peace and prosperity.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked friends, associates and well-wishers to avoid placing birthday advertorials or organising public celebrations as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday on September 2, 2026.

Shettima said he wants the milestone celebrated quietly, with public attention directed towards Nigeria’s development rather than his personal celebration.

The Vice President explained that his decision was motivated by the need to maintain propriety and keep the focus on national issues, particularly at a time when the country is facing several challenges.

“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” Shettima said.

Rather than receiving congratulatory messages through newspapers, radio, television and digital platforms, Shettima urged Nigerians, friends and associates to channel their goodwill into prayers for the country and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He specifically called for prayers for the success of the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, greater national unity, peace and prosperity.

The Vice President is expected to turn 60 on September 2, with the milestone providing an opportunity for reflection and gratitude. However, he has chosen a subdued approach and asked those who would ordinarily organise celebrations or publish goodwill messages to refrain from doing so.

His request also means that friends, political associates and well-wishers have been encouraged to mark the occasion by praying for Nigeria rather than organising public events in his honour.
