Nigerian social media commentator Lekki Street Boy has thrown his weight behind Afrobeats star Davido following the singer’s bold claim that he could stake $1 million on himself in a hit-for-hit battle with any Nigerian artiste.

Reacting to Davido’s statement, Lekki Street Boy insisted that the singer’s catalogue speaks for itself, arguing that no Nigerian artiste has been able to match Davido’s run of hit songs from 2011 to date.

“Don’t whine Davido when he said he can bet $1M on himself to go hit vs hit with anyone from 2011 till date nobody is touching Davido, I can also bet my own money too,” he said.

His comment has added to the growing conversation surrounding Davido’s place among Nigeria’s biggest hitmakers and the strength of his music catalogue over the years.

In related news… Davido has boldly declared himself one of the biggest hitmakers in Nigerian music, putting a staggering $1 million on the line to back up his claim.Daily news digest

The Afrobeats superstar, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the statement during a recent livestream with streamer Davrel, where he challenged any Nigerian artiste to compete with him in a hit-for-hit battle.

“I will put $1 million cash on the table. Nobody has more hits than me,” Davido said during the livestream.

The singer’s confidence comes after more than a decade of success in the Nigerian music industry. Since breaking into the scene, Davido has built an impressive catalogue of songs and collaborations that have earned him widespread recognition both in Nigeria and internationally.

Over the years, he has released numerous popular records while working with some of the biggest names in African and global music. His catalogue has also placed him in frequent comparisons with fellow Nigerian stars such as Wizkid, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tekno and Runtown.

Despite the boldness of his challenge, none of his major contemporaries has publicly accepted the $1 million hit-for-hit showdown so far.

Hit-for-hit challenges are not new among Nigerian music stars. In 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Burna Boy also challenged his colleagues to a similar musical battle.

Reekado Banks, a former Mavin Records artiste, was among those who responded to the challenge. However, Burna Boy reportedly rejected him, insisting that the singer was not a “worthy challenger.”

Davido’s latest declaration has therefore reignited discussions about who truly has the strongest catalogue of hit songs among Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats artistes.
