A Nigerian lady has sparked conversations online after revealing how a man whose romantic advances she initially rejected while they were in university eventually became her husband.

In a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the lady recounted how their relationship evolved from friendship into romance after years of knowing each other.

According to her, although she liked him during their university days, her feelings were not strong enough for her to consider dating him. Despite turning down his advances, the pair maintained their friendship, and she went on to date other people while they were still in school.

She explained that he remained someone she could always rely on emotionally, as he understood her and provided support regardless of the circumstances.

However, things began to change in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. As they continued communicating, she realised that her feelings for him had grown beyond friendship.

The lady said she eventually decided to give him an ultimatum, making it clear that she could no longer maintain their friendship if they were unwilling to pursue a romantic relationship.

Recounting how the situation unfolded, she said:

“I said, ‘You know what? If we don’t date, we can’t be friends again.’ So we had this one week where we’re not talking to each other, which was very weird, actually. We’ve not gone one week without talking to each other since the ten years we’ve known each other.

I’m like, ‘You know, if we don’t date, we can’t talk again because I have feelings for you now.’ But he was like, ‘No, you broke my heart several times. I’m not going to date you.’

I’m like, ‘I can’t do this. If you can’t get past what has happened, let’s stop being friends.’ And so we did get to this point where we realised that we can’t do without each other, and that’s how we started dating in 2020.”

Her story offers a glimpse into how feelings can change over time, even between people who have known each other for years. What began as an unrequited love during their university days eventually developed into a romantic relationship after they both confronted their feelings and the challenges of their past.
