The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims by Abayomi Semako Hunye that he is the party’s governorship candidate, insisting that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is its recognised candidate for the 2027 election.
The party, in a press statement issued on Sunday, said Adeola won its governorship primary with 304,055 votes from 305,287 accredited voters.
It said Adeola subsequently chose Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as his deputy governorship running mate.

The APC chairman in Ogun State, Chief Yemi Sanusi, who signed the statement, said the party had already submitted the names of Adeola and Adegunwa-Balogun to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its governorship candidate and running mate.
The party’s intervention came after Hunye presented himself as the APC governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Ogun APC said there was no basis for any contrary claim and dissociated itself from Hunye’s declaration.
Party cites primary vote
The party said Adeola emerged from its governorship primary after polling 304,055 votes.
A total of 305,287 voters were accredited for the exercise, the statement said.
The APC maintained that the outcome produced Adeola as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
It also said Adegunwa-Balogun was selected as his deputy governorship running mate after the primary.
The party said both names had been forwarded to INEC, setting out its position that the ticket it recognised for the election consists of Adeola and Adegunwa-Balogun.
Sanusi said the party was distancing itself from any declaration by Hunye or any other person claiming to be its governorship candidate.
The statement read in part: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Ogun State APC wishes to state clearly that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, is the duly recognised governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State for the 2027 election.”
It said the party’s position was not open to claims from other individuals presenting themselves as its candidate.
Public told to ignore rival claim
The Ogun APC asked party members, supporters and members of the public to disregard claims that conflict with its position on the governorship ticket.
It said people should rely on communications issued by the Ogun APC and relevant electoral authorities when seeking information about the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.
The party also stated plainly that Hunye was not its recognised governorship candidate.
“Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) is the APC candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election,” the statement said.
The disclaimer places the Ogun APC’s official position on record as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party maintains that Adeola is its governorship candidate and Adegunwa-Balogun his running mate, with both names already submitted to INEC.
