The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted an operational licence to Omega University, Kaduna, clearing the institution to commence academic activities and admit its first students in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The licence was presented to the promoters of the faith-based university during a ceremony in Abuja on Friday.
Presenting the licence, NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, said the institution had fulfilled all regulatory requirements for the establishment of a private university. He disclosed that Omega University would begin with 10 undergraduate programmes, while Kaduna State University (KASU) would serve as its mentor institution to support quality assurance and compliance with NUC standards.
Chairman of the Northern Christian Association (NCA), Rev. Joseph John Hayab, thanked the commission for its transparent approval process and pledged that the university would uphold excellence, integrity and accountability.
Speaking after the ceremony, Pro-Chancellor of Omega University and President of Messengers Foundation, Rev. Dr. Tunde Bolanta, described the approval as the fulfilment of a long-standing vision.
Bolanta said the university was ready to begin academic activities immediately and would admit its pioneer students this year. He also assured prospective students that tuition would be affordable, with flexible payment arrangements to improve access to quality higher education. Omega University is expected to begin operations in Kaduna State during the 2026/2027 academic session.
