The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Osogbo, as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, the operation was carried out at about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, around the Ede Junction area of Osogbo.
The suspects were identified as Musa Taoreed, popularly known as “Toyo”; Musa Muritala Akinde; and Muri Akinni.
The police said the suspects remain in custody while investigations are ongoing to establish their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The Command said the arrests were part of intensified intelligence-driven operations aimed at preventing and detecting crime, protecting lives and property, and maintaining law and order across Osun State.
It added that similar raids would continue in different parts of the state before and after the forthcoming governorship election.
The police also dismissed claims that the operations were politically motivated, stressing that they were conducted solely as part of efforts to protect residents and prevent crime.
“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that these raids are not targeted at any individual, group, or political party. They are purely professional policing operations designed to rid the State of criminal elements,” the statement said.
The Command expressed concern over attempts by individuals and groups to give political interpretations to lawful security operations, warning that such claims could create unnecessary tension and mislead members of the public.
Gotan urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against late-night movements, suspicious gatherings and association with persons of questionable character.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism and neutrality, stressing that its security operations would be conducted without fear or favour and in accordance with the law.
