Osun Political Tension: ‘Act As Father Of The Nation’ – Adeleke Urges Tinubu

•Warns Against Plot To Rig Election
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in what he described as systematic repression, killing and incarceration of residents in Osun State.
This was as he warned that the people will resist any attempt to manipulate the August 15 governorship election.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, stated that Adeleke spoke at a campaign rally in Osogbo on Monday.
Adeleke said elements within the police were allegedly working with APC thugs to intimidate opposition members.
“I want to inform Mr President that my people are being killed on a daily basis. Elements within the police are aiding the APC thugs to kill our people. Mr President, Osun is bleeding, and your urgent intervention is necessary,” the governor told a cheering crowd.
Adeleke noted that Accord Party members had borne the brunt of the attacks in the last three months.
According to him, seven members have been killed, over 20 sustained gunshot wounds, and more than 60 are currently in illegal police detention.
The governor accused some APC leaders of dropping the President’s name to justify the violence.
“Osun APC members are dropping Mr President’s name to kill and maim Osun people. The name of Mr President is being dragged in the mud,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke said the August 15 poll was already attracting international attention, with embassies and human rights groups documenting alleged abuses.

“The shedding of blood of the innocents should stop. We seek nothing but free and fair elections. Osun people won’t bow to threats and intimidation. They want their votes to count. They will insist their votes must count. Osun people will resist any attempt to deny them freedom to choose a leader of their choice,” he stated.
Adeleke, who noted that his administration had endorsed Tinubu’s re-election, said, “Mr President should act as the father of the Nation. We have demonstrated our love for you. Instead of killing our people, now is the time for stakeholders to show love to Osun people.”
In his remarks, the Director General of the Imole Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi, alleged that APC, in collaboration with the police, had begun arresting Accord leaders.
“Gun shooting from Ilesa to Ila won’t defeat Governor Adeleke. Osun people are resolved to vote and defend their votes. Killing innocent people only strengthens the resolve of the people to re-elect the governor,” Oyewumi said.
