“Peter Obi Lost His Chance When He Left ADC For NDC”- Ayodele Fayose Speaks On Peter Obi’s 2027 Chances

  • Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State Governor, commented on Peter Obi’s party switch from ADC to NDC.
  • Fayose believes this move has diminished Obi’s chances for the 2027 presidential election.
  • He shared these insights during an interview on TVC News’ Politics Tonight.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said Peter Obi’s decision to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has weakened his chances ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Fayose made the statement during an appearance on TVC News’ Politics Tonight, where he discussed the prospects of opposition parties and their ability to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

According to the former governor, the opposition had a better opportunity of mounting a strong challenge against the APC when its major political figures were united under the ADC.

Fayose identified Obi’s exit from the coalition as a major setback, insisting that the former Anambra State governor’s political prospects suffered as a result.

“When they were all together in ADC, I would tell anybody that they will make an impact. The day Obi left ADC for NDC, that day Obi lost,” Fayose said.

Despite his assessment of Obi’s political chances, Fayose spoke positively about the former Anambra governor, describing him as “a fantastic Nigerian who has made his marks, who has shown that things can get better.”

He maintained that the opposition’s failure to sustain a united front could hurt its chances at the polls, adding that it might now be difficult for the politicians to undo the decisions they had already made.

Fayose also weighed in on President Bola Tinubu’s prospects in the South-West, saying the president currently enjoys an advantage in the region. He based his projection on the voting pattern recorded during the 2023 presidential election and estimated that Tinubu could secure around four million votes from the region.

The former governor further predicted that Tinubu could receive approximately 65 per cent of the total votes in the 2027 presidential election.

On the controversy surrounding allegations of vote-buying during the Osun State governorship election, Fayose argued that electoral malpractice should not be attributed to one individual or political group. He described it as a broader systemic challenge that requires collective responsibility to address.
