Nigeria international defender Oluwatosin Demehin has penned a heartfelt farewell message to Galatasaray Kadın Futbol Takımı following her permanent transfer to Portuguese champions Benfica, bringing the curtain down on a two-year spell in Turkey.
Sharing her goodbye on social media, Demehin wrote: “Thank you Galatasaray Kadın Futbol Takımı for an incredible chapter. It has been an honour to wear this badge and represent this great club. I leave with great respect, gratitude, pride and unforgettable memories. Wishing the club continued success.ÇOK TEŞEKKÜR EDERİM”

The 24-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year contract with Benfica, running until 2029, and joins fellow Nigerians Janet Akekoromowei and Flourish Sabastine at the club, with both players also arriving during the current transfer window. Their arrival continues a pipeline of Nigerian talent to the Estádio da Luz that former Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe helped establish during her own time in Lisbon.
Demehin revealed she consulted Ucheibe before making the move, speaking with her during a National Team training camp, where her former teammate shared glowing impressions of the club.
Demehin began her senior career in Nigeria before moving to France to join Stade de Reims, then switched to Turkey and signed for Galatasaray in 2024, where she quickly established herself as a key defensive option. She was part of Galatasaray’s title-winning squad and last season’s runner-up finish, amassing 36 caps for Nigeria during her time with the club.
On the international stage, Demehin featured at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, represented Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Falcons, and was part of the squad at the 2026 WAFCON.
Speaking on her arrival in Lisbon, Demehin explained that Benfica’s stature in Portuguese and world football convinced her the move would help her keep developing as a player, and she described herself as hardworking, disciplined and determined, promising supporters her best performances on the pitch.
She also admitted this is her first time in the city and said she is keen to visit the club museum to learn more about Benfica’s history.
