Afrobeats superstar Davido has reacted to a statement by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and credible governorship election in Osun State.
Obi, on Thursday, took to X to appeal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to prioritize the integrity of the electoral process ahead of Saturday’s election.
The former Anambra State governor emphasized that the election was ultimately about the people of Osun State and their constitutional right to choose their leaders without intimidation or interference.
Obi called on several groups, including traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, the media, government institutions, the diplomatic community and international observers, to play their respective roles in ensuring a peaceful and transparent election.
“Osun belongs to its people. Therefore, I call on the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, political parties, candidates, government institutions, civil society organisations, religious and traditional leaders, the media, and every stakeholder to act with the highest degree of neutrality, professionalism, and restraint,” Obi wrote.
He further stressed that voters should be allowed to exercise their franchise freely and without pressure or interference from any individual, group or institution.
Davido Reacts to Obi’s Statement
Following the circulation of Obi’s message on social media, Davido publicly acknowledged the former presidential candidate’s position.
Responding directly to Obi on X, the singer expressed his appreciation, writing:
