President Bola Tinubu told Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to use his election victory as a chance to bring people together and promote stability in the state.

Adeleke visited the presidential office on Thursday to present his certificate of return and thank the president.

Tinubu warned Adeleke not to treat his win as an excuse to punish his political enemies.

The governor defeated 14 other candidates in the election, including Bola Oyebamiji from the ruling party, who came second.

Adeleke won with 511,067 votes compared to Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes.

The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas while Oyebamiji took 11.

The president said Adeleke now has a historic chance to show what democracy really means by reaching out to those who voted against him and avoiding any form of revenge.

Tinubu stressed that winning an election is not about conquering opponents but about receiving a mandate from the people to serve everyone fairly.

He told the governor that the best way to thank voters for their confidence is through his actions in office, not just through celebrations.

Tinubu reminded Adeleke that his position ultimately comes from God and the will of the people, not from political maneuvering.

He said the governor is now in a unique position to strengthen peace and democratic values in Osun.

The president praised Adeleke’s campaign effort but warned him not to use his victory to label or target political opponents.

He stressed that democracy only works when politicians accept election results and respect those who lost, and that focusing on good governance is what matters most.

The opposition All Progressives Congress has rejected the election outcome, with party officials saying they do not believe Adeleke actually received the most votes.
