“Our Tradition Has Been Monetized”- Lord Zeus Blasts Igbo Elders Over Remi Tinubu’s Chieftaincy Title

A Nigerian commentator, Lord Zeus, has criticised some elders and traditional rulers in Igbo land over the decision to confer a chieftaincy title on Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu.
Lord Zeus expressed his displeasure in a strongly worded statement, questioning the decision by traditional rulers in Anambra and Imo states to honour the First Lady with chieftaincy titles.
According to him, the development was particularly troubling because of the political circumstances surrounding the Federal Government’s continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He also took issue with the traditional greeting reportedly exchanged during the ceremony, alleging that the three handshakes given to the First Lady went against Igbo tradition.
Lord Zeus said:
“What You So-Called Elders And Traditional Rulers Of Igbo Land Are Doing Is An Abomination. The Same Thing Happened In Imo State, And Now It Has Happened In Anambra State. Firstly, You’re Giving a Chieftaincy Title To The Wife Of The Man Who Is Holding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Captive And Has Refused To Release Him. And The Worst Part Is That You Collected Three Handshakes From Her, Which Is Against Igbo Tradition And Has Never Been Done Before All Because Of Money. This Is Disgraceful And Very Unfortunate. Our Tradition Has Been Monetized. How Many Igbo Women Have You Given Chieftaincy Titles To And Given Three Handshakes? Yet You Did It For An Outsider Because Of Money. This Is An Eyesore.”
His comments have added to the reactions surrounding the First Lady’s recent recognition by traditional rulers in the Southeast.
