Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Joint Task Force North, have killed several terrorists and recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment after foiling an attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
Acting military information officer of OPHK, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Monday in Maiduguri.
Goni said a large number of terrorists launched an assault on the military position at about 12:20 a.m. on August 10, 2026, in an attempt to overrun the troops.
According to him, the troops responded with sustained fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering heavy casualties.
He said several terrorists were neutralised during the engagement, while weapons, ammunition and communication gadgets were recovered.
Goni added that a post-engagement review of surveillance footage confirmed that several casualties were evacuated by the retreating terrorists.
He said the recovered items and surveillance footage were undergoing further operational assessment.
The military spokesman disclosed that some troops sustained injuries during the engagement after part of the defensive position was temporarily breached, while some combat equipment and vehicles were damaged by rocket-propelled grenade fire.
He said the injured personnel were promptly airlifted and were in stable condition while receiving medical attention.
Following the attack, Goni said troops remained deployed around the FOB and adjoining areas to maintain control of the area, monitor developments and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to attack the position.
He urged residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
The spokesman also called on members of the public to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agencies to support intelligence gathering for ongoing operations.
He said troops remained on high alert around Gajiram, while exploitation of the operational area and further assessment of the terrorists’ casualties and activities continued.
The Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai, according to the statement, reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining military pressure on ISWAP terrorists in the North-East until peace and stability are restored.
