The Ummah Zakat Foundation will on Thursday inaugurate its Board of Trustees (BOT) and unveil its EasyZakat digital platform as part of efforts to strengthen the administration of Islamic social finance in Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Dr Ado Muhammad on behalf of the foundation’s Steering Committee, the event will take place at the auditorium of the National Mosque in Abuja, with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The foundation, established as a faith-inspired, non-profit organisation, aims to harness Zakat, Sadaqah and other forms of Islamic philanthropy to reduce poverty, improve livelihoods and support vulnerable members of society.
It also seeks to promote transparency, accountability, Sharia compliance and the responsible use of technology in the administration and distribution of Zakat.
At the centre of the initiative is the EasyZakat platform, a web and mobile application designed to simplify the calculation, payment, collection, tracking and distribution of Zakat.
The platform is expected to enhance transparency by providing secure digital records, beneficiary verification, auditable transaction trails and real-time tracking of contributions from donors to beneficiaries.
According to the statement, the platform will connect donors, beneficiaries, administrators and relevant institutions through a secure digital interface, while reducing manual processes and limiting the risk of interference or manipulation.
“The platform is not only a payment channel but also a built-in accountability mechanism. It will enable donors to monitor their contributions, access their giving history, view personalised dashboards and obtain downloadable transaction records where required.
“It will strengthen donor confidence and ensure that every contribution is transparently tracked and responsibly accounted for,” the statement said.
The foundation described the inauguration of its Board of Trustees and the launch of the EasyZakat platform as a significant milestone in its drive to build a credible, technology-driven institution dedicated to Islamic social finance, poverty reduction, social justice and inclusive community development across Nigeria.
