‘Why do Nigerians merry, feast amid economic, security challenges’ – Cleric queries

A tele-evangelist and founder, Solid Rock Kingdom Church in Akwa Ibom State, Apostle John Okoriko, has wondered how Nigerians especially Christians continue to merry amid the the economic, political and security challenges rocking the nation.
He said it was high time Nigerians began intensive fasting and prayers to seek divine intervention for a turnaround.
Speaking in Uyo Akwa Ibom state capital during the monthly Interactive Service on the theme, ‘Miracle of Fasting and Prayer’, Okoriko said the spiritual and physical efficacy of fasting and prayer should never be wished away, adding that it contributes in promoting good health as well as renewal of body cells.
He said, “Unfortunately, Christians and other Nigerians continue in eating, feasting and making merriment in the face of health, economic , political challenges facing the nation.
“Christians should take advantage of fasting and prayer because the benefits are enormous.”
The cleric regretted that the doctrine of fasting and tithing have become very controversial in recent times and condemned wrong use of fasting to fight enemies or as punishment for disobedience as witnessed in many churches.
“Some churches use fasting to punish recalcitrant members while parents use it to punish children who disobey them at home. This is totally wrong,” he said while calling on Nigerians to redirect their focus to God through prayers and supplication for divine help.
