The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has appealed to Northern Nigeria power brokers to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete 8 years in office.
The monarch, in a statement on Wednesday, disclosed that the North and Yorubas have a heavenly bond and urged Northerners to be fair and respect the cordial historical background between Northern Nigerians and the South West as a significant part of Southern Nigeria.
He stressed that the existing understanding and cooperation of Yorubas with Northern Nigeria can be sustained through unalloyed support of Northern Nigerians for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Oba Akanbi said the power balance becomes necessary to cement Nigeria’s unity and promote the spirit of sportsmanship between the two national extractions.
He described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a unifier and expressed hope in his reformative policies to benefit all and sundry.
The monarch further said, “Nigeria as a federating nation is divided into Northern and Southern parts. Yorubas constitute a significant part of southern Nigeria. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being a Yoruba man from South Western Nigeria, deserves 8 years in office as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after his predecessor, Late Muhammadu Buhari, a Northerner, who also spent 8 years in office
“One other motivating reason for the Northerners to support and vote for President Bola Ahmed is the historical understanding and relationship between Northern Nigeria and South Western Nigeria, known to be Yorubas. Both the North and the Southwest have built an uncompromising understanding that must be sustained beyond political lines. In the South West, we supported Late President Mohammed Buhari to rule Nigeria for 8 years. The North should pay back. After President Tinubu’s 8 years, we will return the power to them.
“The North and the Southwest are perfect role models for a united Nigeria. They both have a heavenly bond that can not be distracted by artificial contest. We are the cement that bonds the nation together. This understanding informed my royalty marriage from Northern Nigeria.
“I have strong hope that the power rotation will cement the unity of Nigeria. I equally express strong assurance that the 8 years will allow the president to complete his reformative policies that will benefit all and sundry irrespective of their political and cultural attachments”
