Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has shared her perspective on the true meaning of having a relative, sparking reflection among her followers.
Taking to social media, the filmmaker explained that being related by blood does not automatically make someone family. She described a relative as someone who is connected to you by blood and given the first opportunity to become part of your family.
According to Mary Njoku, while some relatives may embrace that opportunity and become genuine family members, others may fail to build that bond.
She noted that a blood relationship only truly becomes family when it is strengthened by love, loyalty, honesty, consistent presence, and a sincere desire to see one another happy and successful.
Her remarks highlight the importance of emotional connection and genuine support in defining who truly deserves to be regarded as family.

“Your relative is not necessarily your family; there’s a huge difference.
A relative is someone you are connected to by blood. Someone God gave the first opportunity to become your family. They get the first interview, so to speak.
Some will pass. Some will fail.
A relative becomes family when that blood connection is strengthened by love, loyalty, honesty, presence, and a genuine desire to see you happy and succeed.
And when a relative lacks all these things. When they resent your happiness, undermine your growth, disappear when you need them, or secretly want to see you fail, they aren’t family.
They are simply a relative who failed the interview and, in some cases, a resident evil”.
