A public advocacy group, New Nigeria Initiative, has commended the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and the Director General of Presidential campaign council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari for stressing that the party will run an issues-based campaign for the 2027 general election.
The group’s Director of Public Affairs, Chris Oke, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen.
Oke commended the APC for running what they described as level playing ground politics which allows opposition parties to go about their campaigns without fear of intimidation.
According to the group, Yari’s approach signals a significant departure from what used to obtain in political cycles, saying they had observed that Yari’s political ingenuity earned him the top job.
The group said the APC campaign council has shunned the path of bickering and bitterness but instead is concentrating on issues that will give the APC an edge in the elections under Yari’s guidance.
Further, it said Yari had added value to the campaign council and said it was worthy of emulation even as he called on other parties to replicate what he described as mature politics.
The statement read “we have observed the disposition of the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, and are pleased to say that we are satisfied with his approach. Yari is neither boastful nor showy.
“He has made the campaign focus on issues rather than raking up muck. This is the stuff maturity is made of. Unlike some others in his shoes who would foul the atmosphere with tough talks that border on mudslinging, Yari is quietly discharging his responsibility without causing problems for his party. We commend his approach to the campaigns and urge others who are in his shoes to learn something from him.
“His decent disposition is also the reason why the APC Presidential Campaign Council is not at war with opposition political parties. Yari is ensuring that the campaign stays focused. As a political party, the APC has an enormous task ahead of it.
“As the ruling party, the APC stands even much more challenged. It has to work hard to defend the mandate it is carrying at moment. This calls for maturity, dedication, steadfastness and a clear sense of purpose. Yari has all of this in abundance. He has a mission, that is, to deliver the party at the polls. In the light of this, we can reaffirm without fear of contradiction that Senator Yari is the right man for the job. We urge him to remain focused in the discharge of this national assignment”, the statement read.
