The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a popular government critic.
Recall that Danshagamu, a resident of Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area was murdered in his home on September 8, 2026.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement that on Monday, September 8, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., the Command received a distress report from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group that unknown hoodlums had forcibly entered the deceased’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
Kiyawa said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division responded promptly to the scene, adding that the victim was immediately taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, for emergency medical attention, where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
He said, “Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the DPO, Kumbotso Police Division, in collaboration with operatives of the Command’s tactical units and community stakeholders, conducted an intelligence-driven operation which resulted in the arrest of two suspects linked to the incident.”
According to him, the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other persons who may be connected to the crime.
He added that statements were being obtained and forensic procedures were ongoing to establish the full facts and motive behind the attack.
CP Bakori expressed concern over the incident and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” the CP stated.
The Command appreciated the Gaida Vigilante Group for the timely information that facilitated the swift police response, noting that the development underscored the effectiveness of community policing and partnership in crime prevention.
Kiyawa urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to the police through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines.
He explained that investigation was ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations have been deployed to Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.
