Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has pledged to deliver an asphalt road linking Kiri and Shelleng, as well as a modern commercial market in Shelleng, as part of efforts to boost trade and economic activities in the area.
Governor Fintiri made the commitment when he received a delegation from the Shelleng Chiefdom, led by the Amna Shelleng, His Royal Highness Dr Abdullahi Isa Dasong II, on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Yola.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state, stressing that every community deserves to benefit from government programmes, policies and infrastructure.
He also called on the people to continue to promote unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that development thrives where communities work together in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
Highlighting some of his administration’s achievements in the social sector over the past seven years, Fintiri said the state government has continued to shoulder the cost of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and National Examinations Council (NECO) registration fees for students, while also providing educational materials to public schools across the state.
Earlier, the Amna Shelleng, HRH Dr Abdullahi Isa Dasong II, said the delegation was at the Government House to express appreciation to Governor Fintiri for the various developmental projects and programmes undertaken by his administration in Shelleng Local Government Area and across Adamawa State.
The traditional ruler commended the Governor for his commitment to improving infrastructure and the welfare of the people.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Shelleng Local Government Council, Abubakar Isa Mai Jama’a, and the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Haruna Ibrahim, praised the Fintiri administration for what they described as an inclusive approach to governance and development.
They particularly commended the government’s community market initiative, noting its potential to stimulate grassroots commerce, improve livelihoods and create economic opportunities for residents.
The officials, however, appealed to the state government to consider additional infrastructure projects in the area, particularly the construction of the Shelleng–Bodwoi road, which they said would further improve connectivity and socioeconomic activities in the local government area.
