“I Knew We Were Going To Lose”- Okowa Admits PDP Was Set To Lose 2023 Presidential Election

• Former Delta State Governor and Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, has admitted that he knew the Peoples Democratic Party would lose the 2023 presidential election.
• He attributed the party’s poor chances partly to resistance in the South to another northern president after Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Former Delta State Governor and Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, Ifeanyi Okowa, has admitted that he knew the Peoples Democratic Party would lose the election.

Okowa made the revelation while reflecting on the factors that shaped the outcome of the 2023 presidential poll.

He said, “Although I was the PDP vice-presidential candidate in 2023, I knew we were going to lose the election.”

According to Okowa, the PDP faced strong resistance in southern Nigeria to the prospect of another northern president after former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

His admission has sparked fresh debate among Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election, with some questioning why he accepted the role of running mate if he already believed the ticket would lose.
