A Nigerian police officer has sparked reactions online after making a controversial statement about former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Obi.
In a statement circulating online, the officer declared that Obi would never become the president of Nigeria and also claimed that an Igbo person could never become president.
He reportedly called for Obi to be removed from the presidential race, insisting that the contest should be left between President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The police officer was also quoted as saying that even if Obi wins the election, steps would be taken to prevent him from entering Aso Rock.
His words read: “Peter Obi can never become president, Igbo can never become president. They should kick him out of the presidential race and leave Tinubu and Atiku. Even if he wins, we and our oga will take money and make sure he doesn’t enter Aso rock. He’s m@d.”
The statement has generated reactions among Nigerians on social media, with many focusing on the officer’s comments about the possibility of preventing an elected candidate from assuming office.
Peter Obi remains one of the prominent political figures associated with Nigeria’s 2027 presidential contest after finishing third in the 2023 presidential election.
