Abia State Governor Alex Otti has told political godfathers in Abia State that leadership positions in the state now belong to young citizens, not them.
Governor Otti stated this at the Labour Party office in Umuahia on Thursday while receiving the 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Ngozika Gladys Johnson Chukwunenye into the Labour Party.
According to Governor Otti, the next person to succeed him as governor will emerge from the pool of trained and equipped young people, not those supplied by godfathers or political contractors.
He disclosed that some opposition politicians attacking him in the media are doing so because of his refusal to agree to the proposals they allegedly brought to him.
Otti stated that his administration was elected by the wish of the Abia electorate and not through the godfathers, stressing that it would not bow or be distracted by attacks from any quarter.
” What I can assure you is that when I am done, the person that will succeed me will be better than me. I don’t want to be a godfather, and I don’t tolerate godfathers.
“I am somebody that if you bring something that will not work, I say no!
Sometimes when I say no, they will go back and be digging for something, but them go explain taya.
” It can’t be only you; there are better trained, smarter and equipped children; we need to give them the opportunity,” Governor Otti fired at godfathers.
The governor, who told the Labour Party faithful no to be afraid of statements from the opposition, said his administration has already recovered Aba and Umuahia from infrastructural decay and is now taking development into the hinterlands.
