José Mourinho has praised Ibrahima Konaté and Dean Huijsen despite Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Real Betis.
Troy Parrott scored the only goal as Betis defeated Real Madrid at La Cartuja Stadium on Friday.
Mourinho believed his team played well and created enough chances to win the match.
He was particularly impressed by centre-backs Konaté and Huijsen.
“We were very dominant, the center-backs were imperial and controlled absolutely everything,” Mourinho said.
The Real Madrid manager added that his players produced plenty of attacking football and created several scoring opportunities.
However, they failed to convert those chances and left the stadium without a point.
Mourinho said it was difficult to understand how his team lost after controlling much of the match.
“The team played a great match. Sometimes you lose and don’t know why or how to explain it,” he said.
The defeat was Mourinho’s first since returning as Real Madrid manager.
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s Champions League match against Inter Milan.
