The National Examinations Council (NECO) has fixed Thursday, September 24, for the release of the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted for secondary school leavers across Nigeria.
The results will be unveiled at 11 a.m. at the council’s headquarters on Kilometer 8, Bida Road, Minna, Niger State, according to a circular sighted by New Daily Prime on Tuesday.
The announcement comes after the conclusion of preparations for the examination results, with NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, presiding over the 2026 SSCE Internal Award Committee meeting at the council’s headquarters.
A post on NECO’s official X account indicated that the committee’s meeting marked the final stage of preparations before the results are formally released.
The development brings an end to the waiting period for thousands of candidates who sat for the examination earlier in the year. The 2026 SSCE Internal examination was conducted between June 15 and July 23.
The examination is NECO’s annual assessment for candidates in their final year of secondary education. Its results are used by candidates as part of the academic records required for further education and other post-secondary pursuits.
Unlike examinations written by external candidates, the SSCE Internal is designed primarily for students completing their secondary education within the school system. The release therefore carries significance for candidates awaiting their grades after months of preparation and examination.
Thursday’s announcement will also provide schools, parents and candidates with an official timeline for accessing the outcome of the assessment.
The council has not indicated in the report whether the results will be released alongside a detailed breakdown of candidates’ performance or other statistical information. Such figures, when made available, could provide further insight into the performance of candidates in the 2026 examination cycle.
The scheduled release follows the council’s established process of reviewing examination outcomes before publication. The Award Committee meeting is part of that process, with the final preparations preceding the public announcement.
Candidates are expected to rely on information issued through NECO’s official channels as they await access to their results.
The 2026 examination period began on June 15 and ended on July 23, giving the council roughly two months to complete the necessary processes leading to the publication of the results.
With the release date now fixed, attention shifts to Thursday’s announcement, when candidates will finally be able to determine their performance in the examination that marks an important stage in their secondary education.
NECO is expected to formally present the results at its Minna headquarters at 11 a.m. on September 24.
