Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has shared an emotional account of his final encounter with fellow actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as he mourns the loss of a friendship that spanned more than four decades.
Ogogo reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a battle with stage 4 cancer. He was laid to rest a day later in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
Two days after the burial, Quadri took to Instagram to pay tribute to his longtime friend, reflecting on their enduring relationship and the memories they created together over the years.
Recalling his last visit to Ogogo in the hospital, Quadri said he struggled to hold back tears after seeing his close friend in a weakened state.
However, Ogogo reportedly tried to reassure him instead of allowing the emotional moment to overwhelm them.
Quadri recalled Ogogo telling him, “Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me,” to which he responded, “Yes, Amen.”
He further recounted how Ogogo asked for a bottle of water shortly afterwards, drank from it and then called the attention of the doctors to the fact that he had eaten earlier that morning.
According to Quadri, the simple act gave him renewed hope and strengthened his belief that his friend would recover.
“At that moment, I said, ‘Glory be to God.’ My hope and faith became even stronger,” he recalled, adding that the medical team encouraged them to continue praying.
Quadri said his friendship with Ogogo began in 1984 and gradually grew beyond their professional relationship. Over the years, rumours occasionally surfaced suggesting that the two actors were no longer on good terms, but neither man allowed such speculation to destroy their bond.
He explained that even when they had disagreements, they knew how to handle their differences privately.
“What made our friendship special was the way we handled our disagreements,” Quadri wrote. “People would anticipate what would happen the next time we met at a public function. Yet, to their surprise, they would see us sitting beside each other, laughing, chatting, and walking together as if nothing had happened.”
Quadri also recalled an occasion involving renowned Nigerian actor and traditional Yoruba oral poet Ajobiewe, who publicly addressed what he believed was a disagreement between the two men at a party.
To the surprise of those present, however, Quadri and Ogogo were comfortably seated together, chatting and relating as usual.
Describing the late actor’s place in his life, Quadri said Ogogo was not merely a colleague or friend but someone he regarded as a brother, confidant and trusted companion.
“I have always said that we were twins from heaven, only born to different mothers,” he wrote.
Quadri ended his tribute with prayers for Ogogo’s soul and comfort for his family, friends and loved ones.
“You may have left this world, but you will never leave my heart,” he wrote. “Rest peacefully, my beloved friend. Rest well, my brother.”
