The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of sunshine, thunderstorms and rainfall across different parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said northern Nigeria would experience predominantly sunny conditions on Monday, although patches of clouds are expected across the region.
Taraba State could experience isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall during the afternoon and evening, while the North-Central region is expected to remain cloudy with intervals of sunshine.
Lagos, Rivers, other southern states to experience rainfall
NiMet said southern states would experience cloudy conditions and periods of sunshine, with light thunderstorms initially expected in parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.
Conditions are expected to intensify later in the day, with moderate rainfall forecast for parts of Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
Similar conditions are expected on Tuesday, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall forecast across several southern states, including Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Osun, Enugu and Rivers.
By Wednesday, moderate rains are expected in parts of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers.
NiMet issues safety advisory to residents
The agency warned that strong winds could occur before thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose objects.
NiMet said, “Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.”
With temperatures also expected to remain high, Nigerians were advised to stay hydrated, wear breathable clothing and remain in well-ventilated environments.
Airline operators were equally urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.
