The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of 23-year-old nursing student, Miss Vivian Chilaka, 82 days after her death in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
Chilaka was killed on June 14, 2026, in an incident that attracted widespread concern in the community.
The suspect was arrested on September 4 following what the police described as credible and actionable information received by the Command.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ibekwe allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with the aid of a ladder, with the initial intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
According to his statement to the police, a struggle ensued between him and the deceased, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab her, leading to her death.
The police said the suspect had also made revelations allegedly linking him to other similar incidents within the community, adding that the claims were being subjected to thorough investigation and corroboration.
The Command also clarified that the landlord who was earlier suspected in connection with the incident had been exonerated following the investigation, urging members of the public to disregard earlier suspicions against him.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues, particularly into his alleged involvement in other related criminal incidents.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the people of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support throughout the investigation.
He particularly appreciated members of the community who provided timely and useful information that contributed to the breakthrough.
The commissioner reiterated that the Command would continue to pursue every credible lead and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
