The Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Olu Toriola, has felicitated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on the celebration of this year’s Olojo Festival, describing the annual fiesta as a recipe for commerce and growth.
In a statement issued by Chief Kola Olabisi, on behalf of the chairman, Ogunsua Palace Media, Oba Toriola said the Olojo Festival has proven to be a verifiable and potent unifying factor not only among natives of Ile-Ife but also between the ancient town, other communities in Yorubaland, other tribes in Nigeria and globally.
He said the uncommon royal attributes of the Ooni have secured for him the role of Ambassador of Peace Plenipotentiary between the cradle of Yoruba and other communities, which has translated into the development of the Source.
The monarch congratulated the people of Ile-Ife for being blessed with an Ooni whose passion for peace is unparalleled, and commended Oba Ogunwusi’s efforts in preserving and projecting the rich cultural heritage of Ile-Ife to Nigeria and the world.
According to him, the growing international interest in the Olojo Festival demonstrates the enduring relevance of Ife’s history and the importance of safeguarding indigenous traditions for future generations, noting that its role in promoting cultural tourism and strengthening ties between Ile-Ife, Yoruba people and Africans in the diaspora cannot be overemphasised.
Oba Toriola also acknowledged the boost in commercial activities in Ile-Ife and neighbouring communities since the commencement of the festival, which has attracted local and foreign tourists, and urged sons and daughters of the Source to continue to partner with the Ooni in sustaining peaceful co-existence between the ancient town and its neighbours.
He said he would continue to pray with the chiefs and people of Modakeke for the Ooni, the royal houses, traditional institutions and the entire people of Ile-Ife for peace, unity, prosperity and sustainable development.
