An APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Alwan Hassan, has sparked reactions online after sharing a story about an alleged NELFUND beneficiary in Niger State.

According to Hassan, he met an orphan who was receiving support through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He said the beneficiary became emotional after receiving her first feeding allowance of N25,000.

Hassan claimed that the young woman then sent N10,000 from the money to her mother to help with monthly feeding.

He said, “I have seen an orphan, a NELFUND beneficiary in Niger State. She said when her first feeding alert of N25,000 came, she cried, and out of the N25,000, she sent N10,000 to her mother for monthly feeding.”

The statement has since generated a wave of reactions, with several Nigerians questioning the use of the word “orphan” in the story.

Some also disputed the amount mentioned, while others criticised the APC over what they described as questionable claims surrounding the NELFUND programme.
