Former Labour Party (LP) presidential running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said he left Peter Obi because he believes the former Anambra State governor does not have a clear plan for Nigeria.
Datti was his running mate on the LP presidential ticket during the 2023 general election.
Following the election, Obi left the LP and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before later moving to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he is currently the presidential candidate.
However, Datti said he would not unfairly support Obi or the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, simply for the sake of political alignment, stressing that fairness guided his decision.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Datti said he had worked hard for Obi during the 2023 presidential campaign but eventually decided to leave after expressing concerns about Obi’s lack of a comprehensive plan for the country.

“I won’t unfairly help promote Baba Atiku and Peter Obi and others just for no good reason because we need to be fair in life, and that’s what I stand for,” he said.
Datti said he had previously advised Obi to develop a clear plan for Nigeria, adding that Obi was aware of his commitment to the 2023 campaign.
“I worked really hard for Peter Obi, but his team doesn’t remember things very well. I let Peter Obi know that he needs to come up with a plan since he doesn’t have one yet,” he said.
The former LP running mate clarified that his decision to leave was not because Obi abandoned him, but because of his concerns about the former governor’s preparedness to lead the country.
“Peter Obi didn’t abandon me; I left because he doesn’t have a plan for Nigeria. Peter Obi knows I stood for him. I still stand by him,” Datti added.
