The Non-Teaching Staff Union of Polytechnics (NOTSUP) has urged the federal government to commence without further delay the full implementation of the recently signed renegotiated CONTTA and other earned allowances agreement.
The agreement was reached through the Yayale Ahmed-led Expanded Tertiary Institutions Negotiation Committee and subsequently signed in Abuja.
National president of NOTSUP, Comrade Shaba Nakorji, made the call in a statement issued following the successful signing of the agreement.
Nakorji commended the federal government for its commitment to social dialogue, collective bargaining, improved workers’ welfare and industrial harmony in the Polytechnic, Colleges of Technology and TVET Institutions subsector.
He also expressed the union’s appreciation to the chairman and members of the committee and its secretariat for their professionalism, commitment and painstaking efforts throughout the renegotiation process.
The NOTSUP president equally commended members of the union nationwide for their patience, resilience, discipline, maturity, unity and unwavering solidarity during the negotiations.
He urged the government to ensure the prompt implementation of all provisions contained in the agreement, stressing that the credibility of collective bargaining was ultimately measured by the faithful implementation of agreements reached by the parties.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement, industrial peace, social justice and the protection of the legitimate rights, welfare and interests of its members.
It also assured its members that the National Executive Council (NEC) would monitor the implementation of the agreement and take all necessary steps through established industrial-relations mechanisms to ensure compliance.
Nakorji further assured members that the national leadership would continue to keep them adequately informed on developments concerning the implementation of the agreement.
“The signing of the agreement is a significant achievement; its full implementation must now be the priority. We therefore respectfully urge the federal government to honour the commitments freely entered into through the collective bargaining process,” he said.
