iPhone 18 Pro Max could bring a camera upgrade never seen on an iPhone

Apple is expected to unveil its next generation of premium iPhones soon, and new leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could bring major camera, performance and battery upgrades.
The information remains based on leaks and reports, so the specifications have not yet been officially confirmed by Apple.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to keep a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system. This would include the main camera, ultrawide camera and telephoto lens.
It could also retain the 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro.
The bigger changes could come with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Rumours suggest the phone could feature a 6x optical zoom camera. The Pro Max is also tipped to get a variable-aperture main camera, which would be a first for an iPhone.
Variable aperture would allow the camera to control how much light enters through the lens. It could give users more control over depth of field and improve photography in different lighting conditions.
It is still unclear whether Apple will bring the feature to both Pro models or reserve it for one model. Recent reports continue to suggest that at least one iPhone 18 Pro model will receive the technology.
Apple is also expected to introduce its new A20 Pro chip.
The chip is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process. Reports suggest it could deliver up to 18% faster performance and around 30% better power efficiency than the A19 Pro.
The new chip could also use a different packaging system that places memory closer to major components such as the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine.
This could improve performance while reducing power consumption.
Battery life may also get a boost.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to receive a battery nearly 10% larger than the one inside the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The regular Pro model could also receive battery improvements.
Other expected changes include a smaller Dynamic Island, Apple’s next-generation C2 modem and improvements to the Camera Control button.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its September 9 event.
Until Apple officially announces the devices, the reported specifications should be treated as rumours.
